French Language

At Kent College Dubai, we strive to encourage both foreign language skills and cultural awareness.

Why learn a foreign language? It is not only useful when travelling, looks very good on your CV and is recognised by universities as an important subject but “it will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English” (Daily Telegraph Jan 22, 2014). More than 200 million people speak French on the five continents. A knowledge of the language opens the doors to French companies in France and other French-speaking parts of the world (Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, North and sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean). French is also the international language of cooking, fashion, theatre, the visual arts, dance and architecture.

French is taught at all key stages at the school and we follow the AQA KS4 and KS5 Syllabuses. The specifications at both Key Stages are new and the emphasis is on communication, with much of the teaching being conducted in French. However, the importance of grammar remains high on the agenda, so our pupils are well-equipped to communicate with confidence and accuracy.
