Patrick Lee-Browne – Principal KCD

“We have assembled a fantastic team of staff to guide our pupils through their first year at Kent College Dubai, and I am looking forward to leading the school in this exciting stage of its history.”

Patrick has taught in a number of coeducational boarding schools in the UK, Rugby School, the King’s School, Canterbury, and Clifton College, Bristol, and his last position was as Head of Rydal Penrhos School in North Wales. He has known Kent College Canterbury and its Head, Dr David Lamper, for the last eight years, and is delighted to have the opportunity to lead the founding of its sister school here in Dubai.

After studying for a degree in English at Clare College, Cambridge, Patrick qualified and practised as a solicitor before changing to a career in teaching. He is married with two children and his interests include singing, sailing, cycling and running.

Luc Blais – Bursar KCD

“We are delighted that the school opened on time in August 2016. This is an amazing school and I am proud to be a part of the start-up of what promises to be a hub of excellence in Dubai education.”

Luc began his career as a metallurgical engineer until he took an MBA at INSEAD and moved into the Finance sector. He has 20 years of experience as a Bursar in international schools in both the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

He is married with three grown-up children working in the UK and Belgium, and he enjoys playing bridge, squash and cooking the occasional meal.

Carmella Jodrell – Head of KCD Junior School

“It is an absolute privilege to be the headteacher of any school, but to be the very first headteacher of a brand new school is a real honour.”

Carmella has spent most of her career working in international education, most recently at a large British International School in Cairo, Egypt. Her first five years of teaching were in London, where she also carried out her BEd training, and she is now completing a Doctorate in Education at Bath University in the UK.

She has two children who have both moved with her to Dubai, and she enjoys yoga, running, swimming and playing tennis, as well as the arts and music.

Chris Starling – Vice-Principal (Pastoral), KCD Senior School

“Kent College Dubai is a really exciting project to be involved in since there are not many times in your life you have the opportunity to be a part of a brand new school.”

Chris grew up in Hong Kong before moving to England to attend university, where he obtained a BEd (Hons). He has recently completed his first year of study for a Masters in Education. He has over 20 years of teaching experience, mostly in the UK, although he has spent the last eight years in an international school in Kenya.

Chris is married with two children and likes watching and playing a number of sports, although his main passions are cricket and rugby. He also enjoys cooking, reading and fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Seema Desai – Vice-Principal (Academic), KCD Senior School

“I am excited to be part of the amazing team at Kent College Dubai, and being part of the school's growth.”

Seema has been in Dubai for almost nine years, most recently working at an IB continuum school. She grew up in various parts of the world including Oman, the UK, Dubai and Sri Lanka. After completing her undergraduate degree and PhD in the UK, she worked in academia before completing a PGCE in Secondary Science (Chemistry) at the University of Exeter. Her teaching career has spanned 12 years and has including schools in the UK, Australia and Dubai.

Seema enjoys travelling, cooking and reading.

Andy Parkin – Deputy Head, KCD Junior School

“I am very pleased to play a part in the development of this outstanding school.”

Andrew has moved to KCD from a large international school in Bangkok, Thailand. He has spent the last 16 years working in international education, both as a teacher and as a leader of learning and teaching. He has a BSc in Computers and Psychology from Plymouth University and a teaching qualification in Educational Psychology from Leicester University.

Andrew is married to Louise, who has a Doctorate in Chemistry and is also working at Kent College Dubai, and they have two children. In his spare time Andrew enjoys all aspects of sport – he is a keen runner and his new passion is road cycling, so one day he hopes to combine his sporting efforts and complete an Iron Man. He also enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with his family.

Julie-Ann Swaysland – Director of Studies, KCD Junior School

“I'm excited to be part of the founding staff at Kent College Dubai and to be working as Director of Studies in the Junior School.”

Julie-Ann has a degree in Primary Education and Geography and spent the first five years of her teaching career gaining experience of a range of year groups from Foundation Stage to Year 6, with promotion to Science Co-ordinator. She has worked in both the USA and the UK, and has wide experience of all aspects of junior schools, including curriculum leadership. She has come to KCD from a post in the UK as a Senior Teacher – a role that involved partnership teaching and coaching, responsibility for a year group, and membership of the Wider Senior Leadership Team.
