On Tuesday 11th October, the Kent College Dubai U11 mixed football team, in their new Canterbury football kits, played their first ever football tournament at Kings’ School Al Barsha. Our first game against Gems Wellington Academy was a close encounter, which ended in a scoreless draw after some fantastic battles in the middle of the field. Neither team could find the net due to the wonderful goal keeping from both sides, particularly the brave Ben Johns for Kent College. Despite both teams playing in the sweltering heat, the Kent College team, led by captain Ethan Ryan, jumped with joy to finish unbeaten in our Junior school’s first-ever competitive football game and unlucky not to finish with a victory.
Two very close games followed for Kent College against the evenly matched Horizon and Kings Dubai schools respectively. Davin Ulf Krittin Norman was a rock in the middle of the park and unlucky to find the net on occasions, while Ganzalo Padron Sanz played with cool composure, storming out of defence with the ball; setting up attacks regularly throughout the tournament. Kent College conceded very late second half goals against Horizon and Kings Dubai, finishing both games second best to 1-0 score lines.
The Kent College team were a credit to their school on Tuesday evening, having played with great team spirit and joyous sportsmanship. All eleven children got plenty of playing time and learned many skills from this historical first U11 football game. Well done to all involved!
The next mixed U11 football tournament will take place on the 23rd November and the other thirteen pupils on the U11 squad will complete on that day at Kings Nad Al Sheba School.
